Shopify Plus Development
Build or move a larger store onto Shopify Plus: checkout customisation, Functions, B2B and ERP links, and a straight answer on whether Plus is worth it for you.
Shopify Plus development for stores that have outgrown the basics
Shopify Plus development is the build and integration work that happens on Shopify's top plan: custom checkout behaviour, Shopify Functions for discounts, shipping and payment rules, B2B ordering, and links to your ERP or warehouse. We scope Plus-ready builds and migrations for established merchants and will tell you honestly if a standard plan already does the job. Our founder is a Shopify Select Partner (listing: Usama Afzal, partner since August 2020), not a Plus Partner, and this page claims no Plus project history. What you get is a written scope, clear limits on what Plus does and does not change, and a staged launch that protects your search traffic. Pricing is quoted after a free call.
Everything you need, nothing you don't.
A Plus fit review: your list of blocked needs checked against Shopify's plan documentation, with a plain recommendation to stay on a standard plan if that is the cheaper way to get the result.
Plus-ready build or migration of catalogue, customers, orders, redirects and theme, with a development store for testing and a staged cutover instead of an overnight switch.
Checkout customisation using Shopify's current extensibility tools: checkout extensions, branding settings and thank-you or order-status page extensions, replacing old checkout.liquid code where it exists.
Custom Shopify Functions for discounts, delivery options, payment rules and order validation, written as custom apps for the Plus store and tested against realistic cart combinations.
B2B setup: company profiles, tailored catalogues, pricing and payment methods, and where required an ordering experience that fits how your wholesale buyers actually reorder.
ERP, warehouse and CRM integration through the vendor's connector or through n8n and API work, with a visible log, retry queue and alert when a sync fails.
Shopify Flow automations for routine store tasks such as tagging, holds and notifications, with a clear line drawn between Flow, n8n and custom code.
Performance, SEO and handover: Core Web Vitals checks, redirect and Search Console monitoring after launch, and written documentation of every extension and Function.
Our Process
We begin with a free call and a short fit review that lists what you cannot do today and which plan feature would unlock it. If Plus is justified, we write a scope covering the build or migration, checkout work, Functions, integrations and testing, with a fixed timeline and payment milestones agreed in writing. Work happens on a development store, with demos at each stage. We run test orders through every payment, shipping and discount path before cutover, launch in stages, and review Search Console and error logs afterwards. Nothing ships to the live checkout without your sign-off.
Technologies We Work With
Work uses Shopify's current extensibility stack: checkout and customer-account extensions, Shopify Functions written in Rust or JavaScript, the Admin and Storefront APIs, and Online Store 2.0 themes in Liquid. Integrations use native connectors where they exist, and n8n or Laravel services where they do not. Shopify Flow handles simple store automations. Analytics runs on GA4 and Search Console. Where a decision depends on messy text, we can add an AI step through the Claude API that proposes an action for a person to approve.
How a project runs
-
Send a brief
Usama reads it personally and replies with questions or a link to book a call.
-
Written quotation
A written scope, timeline, payment milestones and what is out of scope. No obligation.
-
Deposit and kick-off
A secured slot in the schedule. The deposit is non-refundable once work has begun (refund policy).
-
Build in milestones
Progress you can see on a staging site, with payments following the milestones in your quotation.
-
Test and launch
Final checks and go-live. For automations: tested on your real data in staging first, and documented.
-
After launch
Optional monthly maintenance, cancel any time (refund policy). You own the custom code and designs once the project is paid in full (Terms).
What do you actually get on Shopify Plus?
You get deeper control over checkout and the back end, plus higher limits, and you pay for it on terms set by Shopify. The features that matter most to a growing merchant are the ones in the table below. Some things people assume are Plus-only are not, so read it before you budget.
| Capability | Standard plans | Shopify Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Checkout branding and the checkout editor | Standard customisations on Basic and above | Same, plus a Checkout Branding API and advanced options |
| Apps that change the information, shipping and payment steps | Not available | Available |
| Apps for the thank-you and order-status pages | Available | Available |
| Custom apps containing Shopify Functions | Not available; public App Store apps that use Functions work | Available |
| B2B (company profiles, tailored pricing and payment methods) | On Basic, Grow and Advanced, with features depending on plan | Included |
| Shopify Flow | On Basic and above; the HTTP request action needs Grow or above | Included, plus tasks from custom partner apps |
| URL redirect limit | 100,000 | 20,000,000 |
These rows come from Shopify's help centre and developer documentation as read in November 2026. Plans change, so confirm against Shopify's current pages before you decide.
Is Shopify Plus worth it for your store?
It is worth it when you have a specific need the lower plans block. Examples: a custom rule at checkout, such as hiding a payment method for certain carts or validating an order before it is placed; a wholesale site that needs a heavily customised ordering flow; or a very large redirect or catalogue footprint. It is hard to justify when the main reason is prestige, or when your real constraint is traffic, speed or product-market fit.
Before you ask for a Plus quote, write down the three things you cannot do today and check each against the standard plans. B2B alone, for example, does not require Plus. A short call with us can run that check, and we will tell you if you do not need Plus. Shopify also sets Plus pricing itself, and its variable-fee terms are not published in full, so ask Shopify for a current written quote and compare it with what the lower tiers cost for your sales volume.
What does a Plus build or migration involve?
The work splits into five strands, and most of the time goes into the second and third.
- Platform and data. Catalogue, customers and orders move in as in any Shopify migration, with the redirect map and SEO checks that go with it.
- Checkout extensibility. Old customisations written in checkout.liquid are no longer supported for the information, shipping and payment steps, so they must be rebuilt as checkout extensions, Functions or app features, or retired.
- Business rules. Discounts, shipping logic, payment rules and order validation become Shopify Functions where Shopify's own settings fall short.
- Systems. Stock, orders and customers sync with your ERP, warehouse or CRM, through the vendor's connector or through n8n workflows that write to a log you can read.
- Launch. A staged cutover, with test orders through every payment and shipping path and a watch on Search Console afterwards.
How do you connect Shopify Plus to an ERP or 3PL?
Start with the connector the ERP or warehouse vendor already supports, and only build custom when it falls short. Where it does, we use n8n or direct API work: orders flow to the warehouse system, stock and tracking numbers flow back, and any failed message lands in a queue a person can see and retry. For decisions that depend on messy text, such as a supplier's reply or a refund request, an AI step can draft a recommendation for a human to approve. Our AI agents for e-commerce operations page describes how that is kept under control. For a comparison of automation tools, see Shopify Flow vs n8n vs Zapier, and Shopify automation covers the lighter jobs.
How would a Plus project be tested?
Checkout is the part of a store where a bug costs money immediately, so testing carries more weight here than on a standard build. We keep a written test sheet that lists every combination worth trying: each payment method, each shipping zone, discount stacking, B2B and retail customers, tax edge cases, and guest against signed-in buyers. Custom Functions are run against realistic carts, including awkward ones such as mixed shipping classes or an order that just crosses a limit. Extensions are checked on phones first, because most checkouts happen there. Nothing is switched on for all customers at once where the platform lets us stage it, and we agree in advance who can approve a change to the live checkout and how a change is reversed.
What should you prepare before a Plus scoping call?
- A list of the checkout, wholesale or integration needs that your current plan blocks, in your own words.
- Your current platform, and access to a read-only export of products, customers and orders if you are migrating.
- A list of connected systems: ERP, warehouse, accounting, email platform, reviews, subscriptions.
- Your top landing pages from Search Console, so the redirect plan protects them.
- Any deadline that matters, such as a seasonal peak, so we can plan around it.
What does Shopify Plus not fix?
- Slow themes and heavy apps. Plus gives you no speed by default; see Shopify speed optimization.
- Weak traffic or weak offers. A better checkout cannot sell a product people are not searching for.
- Bad data. Messy product records stay messy after a migration.
- Every integration. Plus does not remove the need for an ERP link; it only gives you better ways to build one.
- International complexity. Tax, duties and local rules still need their own planning. Our guide to selling internationally on Shopify covers the basics.
Who are we, and what do we claim?
Website Prism Ltd is registered in England and Wales and delivered remotely. Shopify's partner directory lists the founder (listing: Usama Afzal) as a Select Partner since August 2020. Plus partner status is a different tier and we do not claim it. This page also does not list Plus store projects, because we do not want to imply a track record it cannot show. Treat this as a description of how we would scope and build Plus-ready work. Ask on the call which similar projects we have done and what we have not, and expect a plain answer. Our local pages for the UK and the USA describe the wider Shopify service.
When should you stay off Plus?
Stay on a standard plan if your revenue is still climbing and nothing in the table is blocking you, if your team cannot maintain custom extensions, or if one app already solves the problem for less. Move later, when a documented limit costs more than the plan does. Our Shopify development work covers stores on any plan, and the cost estimator helps scope a project before you spend on the platform.

How pricing works
We quote every project individually, because the price depends on scope: how many pages, systems or integrations are involved, how much is built from scratch, and how fast you need it. Small, well-defined jobs cost far less than custom builds. Tell us what you need, or use the quote request guide, and we will reply with a written quotation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Shopify Plus worth it?
It is worth it when a specific limit on your current plan costs more than Plus does, such as advanced checkout customisation or custom Functions. It is not worth it for prestige. B2B, for example, is available on several standard plans. List what you cannot do today, then test each item against Shopify's plan documentation.
What can you customise on Shopify Plus that you cannot on other plans?
Per Shopify's help centre, apps that change the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout, the Checkout Branding API and other advanced checkout customisation are Plus only. Custom apps containing Shopify Functions also need Plus. Shopify updates these rules, so confirm against its current pages.
Are you a Shopify Plus Partner?
No. Shopify's directory lists our founder's profile (Usama Afzal) as a Select Partner since August 2020, and we claim nothing higher. We scope Plus-ready work, and this page lists no Plus store projects. On the call we will say plainly which similar projects we have and have not done, so you can judge fit before paying for anything.
How much does a Shopify Plus build or migration cost?
We quote in writing after a free call and publish no package prices. Drivers include catalogue size, how much custom checkout logic you need, integrations, B2B rules and how many markets you sell in. Shopify sets Plus subscription pricing separately, so ask Shopify for a current quote.
Can you migrate our store to Shopify Plus from Magento or BigCommerce?
We scope migrations from Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and other platforms. Catalogue, customers and orders move by export or API, with a redirect map to protect search traffic. Custom modules and checkout logic are rebuilt. Ask us on the call about relevant examples.
Can Shopify Plus connect to our ERP or warehouse system?
Yes, usually. We start with the connector your ERP or warehouse vendor supports, and use n8n or API work where it falls short. Orders go out and stock and tracking come back, with a log and retry queue so failures are visible. Plus does not remove the need to build the link.
