MVP development for startups: build the smallest version that proves your idea

An MVP, or minimum viable product, is the smallest working version of your product that lets real users do the one job it exists for, so you learn whether the idea is worth more investment. Good MVP development is mostly about cutting: deciding what the first version must do and, just as important, what it will not. We scope that with you, then build a web app, mobile app or SaaS platform using Laravel, React or Flutter, or a no-code tool when that is the sensible start. We give cost and timeline drivers rather than fixed-week promises, and the code is yours to keep and extend.

What's Included

Everything you need, nothing you don't.

01

A scoping session that turns your idea into one user, one core job and a short list of features, with a written list of what is deliberately left out of version one.

02

Validation guidance before any code: interview questions, a landing page or clickable prototype, and a way to judge whether people will pay or commit, so you do not build blind.

03

A technical recommendation covering web, mobile or both, and whether Laravel, React, Flutter, FlutterFlow or a no-code tool fits your budget, team and likely growth.

04

User accounts, roles, the core workflow and an admin area for your team, built on a clean structure that can grow into the full product instead of being thrown away.

05

Billing set up when you are ready to charge, using subscriptions or one-off payments, with test transactions for each plan and clear records for your accountant.

06

Basic analytics and error tracking from day one, so you can see what users do, where they stop and what breaks, rather than guessing.

07

Security and data basics suited to a first release: authentication, access control, backups and privacy notices, with a review step for any AI-generated code.

08

Handover of source code, hosting accounts and documentation, plus a short roadmap of what to build second, based on what you learn from the first users.

How We Work

Our Process

We begin with a scoping call and a written scope that names the user, the core job, the screens and the exclusions. You approve that before building starts. We then build in short stages, showing working software at the end of each, so you can test with real users early and change direction cheaply. Launch is small on purpose: a handful of users, watched closely. After launch we review usage together and decide what the next stage should be. Estimates come from the scope, and changes are quoted before work begins, so the budget stays under your control.

Under the Hood

Technologies We Work With

Laravel and PHP for web back-ends, accounts, billing and admin tools; React for rich interfaces; Flutter for iOS and Android apps from one codebase, or FlutterFlow when a visual builder gets you to market sooner; Stripe through Laravel Cashier for subscriptions; MySQL or PostgreSQL for data; and n8n or Make for glue and internal automations. For AI features we use the Claude and OpenAI APIs. No-code tools are recommended only where they genuinely shorten the path to testing.

How a project runs

  1. Send a brief

You: What you need, links, and any deadline.

We give you: Usama reads it personally and replies with questions or a link to book a call.

  2. Written quotation

    You: Confirm the scope.

We give you: A written scope, timeline, payment milestones and what is out of scope. No obligation.

  3. Deposit and kick-off

You: Pay the invoice by bank transfer.

We give you: A secured slot in the schedule. The deposit is non-refundable once work has begun (refund policy).

  4. Build in milestones

    You: Review each milestone.

We give you: Progress you can see on a staging site, with payments following the milestones in your quotation.

  5. Test and launch

    You: Approve the result.

We give you: Final checks and go-live. For automations: tested on your real data in staging first, and documented.

  6. After launch

You: Decide whether you want support.

We give you: Optional monthly maintenance, cancel any time (refund policy). You own the custom code and designs once the project is paid in full (Terms).

Who is this for, and who is it not for?

It suits founders with a clear problem, a specific first user and the ability to talk to customers, whether solo or in a small team. It also suits businesses launching a new internal tool or product line who want to test it before committing a large budget. It is a poor fit if you want a finished platform with every feature on day one, or if the idea has never been discussed with a single potential customer. In that second case, the cheapest next step is conversations, not code.

How do you decide what goes into version one?

We use a blunt filter. Write down the single job your product does for one type of user. Then list every feature you have imagined, and ask of each: could a user complete that job without it? If yes, it waits. Typical sorting looks like this:

FeatureUsually in v1?Reason
Sign-up and loginYesYou need to know who is using it
The core workflowYesThis is the product
Simple admin screen for your teamYesSaves manual database edits
PaymentsOftenCharging is the strongest validation, but a manual invoice can work first
Social login, referrals, badgesNoGrowth features need users first
Native mobile app and web app togetherRarelyPick the platform where your first users already are
Fine-grained roles and permissionsRarelyStart with two roles and extend
Dashboards and advanced reportsNoExport a spreadsheet until real demand appears
Multiple languages and currenciesOnly if your first market needs themAdds testing on every screen

The table is a guide, not a rule. A health product may need strict permissions from the start, and a marketplace needs both sides working. The point is to make each inclusion a decision.

How should you validate before building?

Validation is cheaper than development, so do it first, and keep the results honest.

  • Talk to people with the problem. Ask how they handle it today, what it costs them and what they have tried. Avoid pitching.
  • Test a promise. A landing page with one clear offer and a sign-up or deposit button tells you more than polite feedback.
  • Fake the back end. Run the first few customers manually, with spreadsheets and email, to learn what actually needs automating.
  • Set a decision rule in advance. For example: if fewer than a number you choose commit, change the idea. Deciding beforehand stops you rationalising weak results.

We can help design these tests, and sometimes the right advice is that you do not need to build yet.

Which technology should you build the MVP with?

The platform matters less than people think; clarity of scope matters more. Our usual starting points:

  • Web product or SaaS: Laravel for the back end, accounts, billing and admin, with React where the interface needs to feel app-like. See Laravel and React full-stack development and web application development. For subscriptions, Laravel's official Cashier package integrates with Stripe billing (Laravel documentation, checked November 2026).
  • AI-powered product: the same foundation plus model APIs, with extra care over cost per use and data handling. See AI SaaS development.
  • Mobile app: Flutter builds for iOS and Android from a single codebase, according to Flutter's own site (checked November 2026), which keeps a first release affordable. FlutterFlow can shorten the path further for simple apps. See Flutter and FlutterFlow development, mobile app development and AI mobile app development. Our comparison of native and cross-platform apps explains the trade-offs.
  • No-code first: when you need to test demand in days and the logic is simple, a no-code build plus automation can be enough. Plan the exit: know what data you can export and what would force a rebuild.

What about multi-tenant SaaS, security and AI-generated code?

Founders often ask whether they must design for thousands of customers on day one. Usually not, but a few early decisions are hard to reverse, such as how one customer's data is kept apart from another's. Our article on multi-tenant architecture for SaaS founders sets out the options. If you used an AI coding tool to prototype, treat the output as a draft and have it reviewed; common AI coding tool security mistakes lists what to check, and our vibe-code rescue service handles the repair when needed.

Who owns the code, and what do you receive at the end?

Our terms of service state that intellectual property in custom deliverables transfers to you once you have paid in full, and the refund policy explains how deposits and milestones work. In practice, you should receive the source repository, access to hosting and third-party accounts held in your name, setup notes and a list of services the product depends on. Open-source libraries and paid services keep their own licences. Ask for these items in writing from any developer you hire, ours included, and keep the repository in an account you control.

How does an MVP grow into a product?

If the first users stay and ask for more, the code base should expand instead of being replaced. That depends on early habits: tests around the core workflow, a sensible database design, secrets kept out of the code and a deployment you can repeat. After launch we review real usage with you and rank the next features by what users do, not by what the founding team assumed. Some pieces will need hardening, such as monitoring, queue handling and permissions, and we list them as the product proves itself.

What affects cost and timeline?

We do not quote fixed weeks or prices in advance because the scope sets both. The main drivers are the number of user roles, the number and type of integrations, payment complexity, the choice of platform (one or two), AI features and their running costs, design depth, and how quickly decisions and content arrive. The most reliable way to reduce either is to remove features. Try the cost estimator for a first view, then book a scoping call.

When not to build an MVP with us

Do not start development if you have no evidence anyone wants the product and have not tested it cheaply. Do not use us if you need a fixed price and date before scope is agreed, because that would force one of the two to be wrong. And if a no-code tool already meets your test needs, use it; we would rather help you move later than sell you code you do not need yet.

What we can and cannot show you

Our published client reviews and case studies are for Shopify, WordPress, mobile and custom web projects, and you can check them on Fiverr and the Shopify Partner directory. We have no published client review or case study for MVP Development for Startups: Web, Mobile and SaaS yet, so we do not show one. Instead you get a written scope and quotation before work starts, a working staging version to test on your own data before go-live, and the right to stop between milestones (see the refund policy). If a simpler tool does the job, we will tell you.

How pricing works

We quote every project individually, because the price depends on scope: how many pages, systems or integrations are involved, how much is built from scratch, and how fast you need it. Small, well-defined jobs cost far less than custom builds. Tell us what you need, or use the quote request guide, and we will reply with a written quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MVP development?

MVP development is building the smallest usable version of a product so you can test it with real users and learn what to improve before spending more. It is not a rough prototype or a broken demo. It is a working product that does one important job well, with everything else postponed.

How much does MVP development cost?

It depends on what the first version must do: number of user roles, integrations, payments, platforms and any AI features. We quote after scoping rather than listing a price, because the most reliable way to lower cost is to cut features. Use the cost estimator for a rough view, then confirm on a call.

How long does it take to build an MVP?

It depends on scope and on how fast you can make decisions and supply content. A narrow web app takes much less time than a two-sided marketplace. We do not promise a fixed number of weeks, because claims like that usually ignore scope changes, which cause most delays.

Should I build my MVP with no-code or custom code?

Use no-code when you need to test demand quickly and the idea fits what the tool can do. Move to custom code when you need unusual logic, performance, data control or you are hitting platform limits. We can start with either and plan the move, so early work is not wasted.

Will I own the code for my MVP?

Under our terms of service, ownership of custom deliverables passes to you once payment is complete in full. We hand over source code, hosting access and documentation. Third-party libraries and services keep their own licences, and we list them so you know what you depend on. Read the terms and ask us about your case.

Can you rescue an MVP built with AI tools or by another developer?

Often yes. We review the code, security and structure, then recommend whether to repair, refactor or rebuild parts. Our vibe-code rescue service covers apps generated with AI coding tools. We tell you plainly if a rewrite would cost less than patching.

What you can rely on, and what we will not do

What you can rely on

  • A written quotation with scope, timeline and payment milestones before any work starts.
  • You own the custom code and designs once the project is paid in full.
  • If you cancel mid-project you pay for the work done; work not yet started is refunded.
  • We use your details to reply, quote and run your project. Analytics only after you accept cookies; no advertising pixels and no card data on this site.
  • We tell you honestly when a platform or feature is not the right fit.

What we will not do

  • Promise rankings, sales or AI-assistant citations. Nobody controls those.
  • Invent reviews, client names or case-study numbers.
  • Show your project in our portfolio if you ask us not to.
  • Quote a price before we understand your scope.
